Vinicius Praises Lamine Yamal for Condemning Anti-Muslim Fan Chants
Real Madrid Forward Vinicius Junior Commends Barcelona Player Lamine Yamal
Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior has expressed his admiration for Barcelona player Lamine Yamal, who publicly condemned anti-Muslim chants in a recent match. Vinicius Junior spoke on Monday, less than a week after Yamal criticized the chants by Spanish fans in Spain's friendly against Egypt last Tuesday.
Yamal, a Muslim, had said the chants were disrespectful and intolerable. Vinicius Junior, a Brazil international, has often been subjected to racist taunts while playing in Europe and is vocal about the fight against racism.
He said, 'It's always complicated' to talk about the subject, but 'these things happen a lot.' Vinicius Junior emphasized the importance of sticking together in the fight against discrimination, stating, 'Hopefully we can continue with this fight.'
He also praised Yamal for speaking out, saying it could help others. Vinicius Junior acknowledged that while they, as famous and wealthy players, have a stronger voice, others who are less fortunate struggle more with racism and discrimination.
Vinicius Junior also shared his own experience of being subjected to racist taunts, including an incident where Benfica player Gianluca Prestianni allegedly called him a monkey. He emphasized that there are racists in many countries, including Spain, Germany, Portugal, and Brazil, but by working together, future players and people may not have to go through this again.
